It's time for the 6 month update... LOL

  • Aug. 11th, 2009 at 10:06 PM

Hello again, all! As always, I'm terrible about updating, but I realized it's about that time again. :) I've been keeping up with reading your posts when I can... Sorry I don't comment more often. I usually don't even think about doing so until I'm laying in bed at night!

Anyway, as usual, my career choice is changing yet again. lol I won't bore you with the details, but if you'd like to read more, you can here.  I decided to make a new blog to keep up with my new adventures.  Who knows how often I will post in it, though, lol.  You guys know how I am!

Let's see...  Update, update.  In recent news, I went to Europe for 2 weeks in July.  It was AMAZING.  You can access photos through my Facebook account.  I am still with Brian, and he and I moved in together this summer.  :)  It's going really well.  Steve is also very happy now, and is engaged to his new girlfriend Shevon.  She's a great person and I really think that the two of them will make a great lifelong pair.  Really, everything has turned out for the better over the past year, I think.  I've grown and changed a lot, but have also learned more of my weaknesses.  All in all, I am becoming more satisfied with the person I am becoming, even if I am still a very flawed and complicated individual.  I firmly believe that it takes all the parts of a person to make the whole.

If you guys get a chance, drop me a comment and let me know how you're doing!  I should have more time soon, so maybe I will set a goal to try to actually leave comments when I read...  lol  :)

A quick update

  • Feb. 26th, 2009 at 10:46 AM

Hello, all my friends in Livejournal-land! :) I'm sorry that I never update, but with grad school, work, and the web series, I'm a crazy mess of busy. Everything is going well as of late... I have a new boyfriend who is incredibly sweet and kind, and my kitty is insanely adorable. I really couldn't ask for anything else (except, I guess, more time! lol).

Anyway, if you guys get time, feel free to check out the website for the new web series I'm on. That's right, I'm acting in it. With no previous experience. :) But it's really fun, and is a great hobby to steal all my time on the weekends. We're still really new at this, so any feedback you can provide would be graciously accepted. Here's the link: andComics.com.

Hope you all are doing well.  :)  I do read your updates when I can.  Get well soon, Jonathan!  April, you will get it all done, somehow...  You're awesome like that.  And Kate, I hope you're surviving through all your drama.  Hugs to everyone!

Click Here to take my survey for grad school!  Thank you times a ton.  :)

Edit:  I don't need any more participants, but I figured I'd leave the link up in case anyone was curious about the questions.  Thanks so much to everyone who took the survey!

Hooray!

Hooray! I'm still a little in shock about Obama's win - after all, for a long time it seemed like no one I really liked (politically speaking) would ever get anywhere. Thankfully, that isn't the case. It seems so strange to be part of a majority, especially since everywhere I've ever lived, I've been in the minority. Somewhere out there, there are people who agree with my ideals! I just don't happen to live near many of them. :)

Anyway, I want to reach out my hand to those who aren't happy about the outcome of this election. I haven't forgotten how disorienting it can be to be a part of the losing party. It simply isn't a good feeling. It feels frightening and unfamiliar, like your country has rejected you. Believe me, I can empathize. But the votes have now been tallied, and all either side can do at this point is move on. No matter what obstacles we face in the upcoming four years, we have no choice but to do it together. So let's wake up every morning and take each day as it comes. Republican, democrat... In the end, it doesn't matter much. What matters more is how we live our lives individually, as well as how we learn to live with one another. So I say to all my American brethren, please, take my hand. Let's move into the future together and make the most of every single day.

I would make a post, but I'm honestly too tired. For anyone who has been worrying about me - I'm okay. Just tired. :) Very, very busy with graduate school, but I wouldn't want it any other way. J, I've been meaning to call you back, but haven't had the chance. I'm not avoiding you, just extra super busy. I don't know that I've ever been this busy before!

Soon, I hope to make a post. Until then, take care, everyone! And I do sometimes read your posts, especially when I get a break from work. So please, don't quit posting! :)

"The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you."

I don't care if you repost it or not, but one of my friends posted it, and I asked her a question. Given that the question I asked her was extremely nosey and none of my business, anyone is welcome to ask me the same. If the topic is too personal, I may screen both the question and the response.

So, since I never post here, I thought I'd post for once. I started my first day of graduate school today. So far, it seems quite awesome. Steve and I bought our first house and moved in on May 18th. I have a new job (graduate statistician) that I start tomorrow. Lots of changes. I also read the book Ender's Game during my short break, and adored it. That's really about it, honestly. Hope you all are doing well.

You are not interested in the arts and do not display aesthetic sensitivity. You are not affected strongly by human suffering, priding yourself on making objective judgments based on reason. Just kidding.  We're not getting that house.  If you'd like the details as to why, they're on my husband's blog.

We do, however, have an offer on another house, so we'll see how that shakes out.

We're getting a house!

AHHHHHH! We're getting a house! This one, in fact: http://www.600nw31st.com/

In an unlikely turn of events, my placement on the alternate list for graduate school has come through. Today I received a letter offering me a spot in the program. :) Hooray! I get to be a masters student after all.

More details when I'm not so insanely busy.

Sad face

  • Mar. 6th, 2008 at 5:06 PM

So, although I felt that the interviews for the Masters program went well, I didn't get admitted to the program. The letter that I recieved said that I am on the alternate list, but I have no idea where I stand on it, so I'm just going to go forth and make new plans.

Sigh... Oh, well. Hey, now I can go to Europe for a month if I wanna! :) It's all good.

Woooo-hoo!

  • Feb. 13th, 2008 at 3:51 PM

I have interviews for the Masters in Community Counseling program on 2/29. :) Wish me luck!

Not as dead as you might think

  • Feb. 5th, 2008 at 2:51 PM

I never post anymore. Yes, I know. Bad me. But I assume that by now, noone is sitting at the computer monitor, staring and waiting for me to post something. ;) If you are... Well, you should stop!

This semester is probably my busiest ever, whatwith taking 18 hours, working, and volunteering on the campus crisis hotline. So far I'm thoroughly enjoying myself, although sometimes I do feel like I'm spinning so fast I can't stop. Thankfully, I can handle it.

I just applied as of the end of last month to graduate school (the Masters in Community Counseling program). We'll see if I get in (psychology fields tend to be insanely competitive). I'm hopeful; my GPA has bounced back from its previous depths to a modest 3.67, plus I've had lots of great experiences since coming back. I've worked at a research lab, at a crisis hotline, and as a TA, amongst other great things. Please, faithful readers, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Those of you that have time to read for recreation - I highly suggest "The Botany of Desire" by Michael Pollan and "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Heinlein.

Hope you're all doing well. :)

My Fellow Oklahomans - Part 1

  • Nov. 12th, 2007 at 8:29 PM

Although today has mostly been a day of recuperation for yours truly (and by that I mean I slept until 3pm), this evening I felt well enough to begin on my massive backlog of school assignments.  It all started out innocently, whatwith my choosing to work first on a project that's due for Social Psychology next week; in my quest for scholarly prowess I chose the semi-interesting topic "What Women (and Men) Want."  To complete this particular assignment I was tasked with finding real personal ads from men and women (30 for each gender, so 60 total) and then coding them for content.  Seems easy enough, right?  So I set about trying to find a website with personal ads.

This is where my research went terribly, terribly wrong (or terribly, terribly right, depending on how you view it).  You see, for my research, I decided to visit the personal ads on Oklahoma City's Craigslist. Silly me, I'd forgotten what some of the locals are like here, not to mention the caliber of individuals you'd tend to get with a truly FREE online classified.  So here for the world to see are what I'll call "Oklahoma's Greatest Hits."  I'm not sure if I mean someone should hit these people - which is undoubtedly true, of course - or if I mean these people are probably going to get about 40 times more hits on their pages simply because I'm listing them here.  Probably both.  To my fellow Oklahomans, enjoy a sneak peek of all the wonder Oklahoma has to offer.

Cut to save your friends page. )

Okay, so that about does it for this round. If I can stop feeling dirty for long enough I'll introduce you to the lovely ladies. For now, two hour showers are what I need. At least three of them. Thank god I'm married.

FYI - I went to the Norman Regional Urgent Care place today, and lo and behold, I have strep throat. That means that for the second time in 30 days, I'll be on antibiotics.

Something tells me I need to be screened for lupus soon. Sigh.

The Darjeeling Limited is awesome.  You should all go see it, especially if you like other Wes Anderson films.

That is all.
